Should Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor Fire His Agent?

Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor

If Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor doesn’t fire his agent Jerome Stanley, he’s going to look like the two of them just orchestrated a front page “good cop bad cop routine”, at the expense of Oaklands Head Coach Dennis Allen.

Think about this! If they planned this interview & rebuttle, and I’m not saying they did, then it was a well planned shot at Dennis Allen, who is already skating on thin ice in Oakland after what could easily end up a second consecutive 4 – 12 season.

In a ten minute interview with CSN Bay Area on Monday., QB Terrelle Pryor’s agent Jerome Stanley said:

“I think they’re putting him in hopes that he fails. I think they’re putting him in hopes that he has a bad game, so (HC Dennis Allen) can then justify the Matt McGloin situation.” (Matt took over when Pryor was injured)

“You have to understand the coach is putting him in, he doesn’t want him to look good. And you can write that. He doesn’t want him to look good because, if he looks good this week, it makes the past five weeks look like a bad decision. He (Allen) doesn’t want him to look good, he wants him to look bad. That is what is going on.”

After they got back from Dallas, he should have been reinserted into the starting lineup and been allowed to use the rest of the year to develop so that he could have been ready to go.”

“I expect Terrelle Pryor to be a successful starting quarterback in the NFL. I expect that. I’ll be shocked if it didn’t happen. Terrelle Pryor is the best and most dynamic athlete in the NFL playing the quarterback position. Really!?!

He also has won games and been productive when given the opportunity. It’s not brain surgery. His coach stumbled upon a gem, the find of the season in Terrelle Pryor. He stumbled upon him and then he botched the discovery. It was ridiculous, just ridiculous.”

Shortly thereafter, Terrelle Pryor comes out on twitter with this face saving rebuttle:

Well, that is certainly what I would be saying to save face!!!

But was it all contrived, planned out, or was it an agent acting on his own? Let’s take a look at the time table of how it all happened.

Pryor started the season with a 3 point loss to the Colts, followed by a 10 point win against the Jaguars. He was then injured (concussion) in the 37 – 21 loss to the Broncos, and Matt Flynn finished a game that was all but over.

Matt Flynn then lost to the Redskins by 10 points the next week, as Pryor was taking the league mandated medical precautions following a concussion.

The following week Pryor was back, and beat the Chargers 27 – 17. The following week against Kansas City was a disastrous game, with pryor throwing 1 TD & 3 interceptions in a 24 – 7 loss.

Next up the team somehow managed to pull off a 3 point win against the Steelers with Pryor throwing 2 more INT’s & NO TD’s. In the next game against the Eagles (a 49 – 20 loss) Pryor injured a knee, after throwing 2 more INT’s & no TD’s, & is replaced by Matt McGloin.

But Terrelle Pryor is back for the start of the next game, a 24 – 20 loss to the Giants. He manages to throw 1 more Interception with NO TD, and at that point HC Dennis Allen knew he needed to give Pryor some filmroom/practice time to get him up to speed with the professional game.

Now Matt McGloin is given a shot, and he promptly throws 3 TD’s with NO INT’s against a floundering Houston Texans team, and then throws 1 TD & 1 INT in a 4 point loss the following week to Tennessee.

From bad to worse, McGloin then throws 1 INT & 0 TD’s in a 31 – 24 loss to the Cowboys. Next is the 37 – 27 loss to the Jets, and McGloin goes 18/31 with 2TD’s & 1 INT. Pryor actually gets a few plays during the game going 2/5 with nothing possitve or negative to report.

Now the Cheifs are back again, and by the middle of the game Dennis Allen is wondering if he has any QB that can pass without throwing interceptions. Matt McGloin goes 18/35 with 2 TD’s & 4 INT’sPryor goes 1/5 with 0 TD’s & 1 INT!!!

Allen stuck with McGloin for last weeks 26 – 13 loss to San Diego, and he was rewarded with a 20/36 0 TD’s & 1 INT performance! Why NOT start Terrelle Pryor for the last game of the season? It will at least show what he’s learned during his down time.

No one can fault Dennis Allen for taking every opportunity to try and improve his teams performance. He certainly knows better than an agent what is going on with his players. Let’s just take a look at the stat lines on his quaterbacks this year.

Matt Flynn looked the best of the bunch, but that’s not saying much. I certainly wouldn’t want to be in Dennis Allen’s possition. It has to be a tough job trying to right a franchise that had sunk as low, and has had as many problems as the Oakland Raiders over the past decade.

The biggest problem I still see is, will the Raiders stick with Alen for another year? The fact that they have been the quickest in the league to make Head Coaching changes is the primary reason I give for the recent failures.

When a franchise gets into as much trouble as they did (cap problems etc.) they certainly cannot expect a two year fix! So, the big question is, did Oakland Raiders QB Terrelle Pryor and his agent plan this publicity, or was it all on his agent? What do you think?
