Why The Panthers Fans Are #23 On Facebook
Why The Panthers Fans Are #23 On Facebook is the same reason why they are moving up!
As of last season, the Carolina Panthers are one of the 7 teenagers (in NFL years) in the league, and so they haven’t had 80+ years to build a fan base, but when they came within one win of reaching the Super Bowl, in just their second year, they kick started a rapacious fan following right out of the gate!
Panthers Fans wanted more, but that didn’t happen until HC John Fox (now with Denver) arrived in 2002. A year later Panthers Fans were in the Super Bowl, and although it ended with a loss, the rich flavor of the big game left them hungry for more.
Fox only got them into the playoffs 3 of his 9 years calling the shots, and now that Ron Rivera got them back to the post season last year with a 12 win season, things are looking good for Panthers Fans.
Trailing the 80 year old Detroit Lions by just 270k “Likes”, all these fans need is three or four back to back playoff appearances, and a Super Bowl win to catapult them into the top half of the NFL Facebook Popularity List.
With 26 picks in the last four drafts, QB Cam Newton (1st round 2011) has started all 48 of his games, LB Luke Kuechly (1st round 2012) has started all 32 games in his first 2 years grabbing 6 interceptions (4 in 2013), and DT Star Lotulelei (1st round 2013) started all 16 of his games his first year as well. This shows me that the first round picks are panning out well during HC Rivera’s tenure.
Rounds 1 & 2 in the 2014 draft look pretty good on paper as well, with 1st rounder WR Kelvin Benjamin filling a need, and 2nd round DE Kony Ealy promising to ‘bring it’ in the pass rush. Adding Ealy into the rotation with Greg Hardy (15 sacks last year) and Charles Johnson (11 sacks last year) seems almost unfair to the rest of the league.
The future looks bright for Carolina Fans! With a plethora of beautiful Golf courses and beaches, all the Carolina’s need is a Super Bowl win. If you missed the article, “Facebook Ranks NFL Fans”, then you can follow that link.
